🎰 House edge at a glance
House edge is the casino’s built-in share of every bet over the long run. Lower is better for you.
🎰 House edge by game and bet
Lower is better. Blackjack is the midpoint of a 0.4-0.6% range with basic strategy.
| Blackjack (basic strategy) | 0.5% |
|---|---|
| Baccarat - banker | 1.06% |
| Craps - pass line | 1.41% |
| European roulette | 2.70% |
| Slots at 96% RTP | 4% |
| American roulette | 5.26% |
| Baccarat - tie | 14.36% |
Bet choice matters as much as game choice. In baccarat, the banker bet carries about a 1% edge while the tie bet carries more than 14%. In roulette, the single-zero European wheel costs about half what the double-zero American wheel does. And a slot’s edge depends on its RTP setting: Book of Dead ships at 96.21% by default but can run as low as 84.18%, which is why we always write “up to” next to a slot’s RTP.
🧮 Why game choice matters for bonuses
A low house edge doesn’t make a game good for clearing a bonus. Casinos weight games differently toward wagering, and table games usually count for a fraction of every bet. Here’s one Kahnawake-licensed casino’s published weighting.
🧮 Wagering contribution, Jackpot City
Share of each bet that counts toward clearing a bonus
| Slots | 100% |
|---|---|
| NetEnt slots | 50% |
| Roulette, blackjack, video poker | 8% |
| Classic Blackjack | 2% |
| Baccarat, craps | 0% |
Here’s what that means, as an illustrative example. A C$100 bonus at 35x needs C$3,500 in bets. On slots counting 100%, that’s C$3,500. On blackjack counting 8%, it’s C$43,750. Same bonus, more than twelve times the bets.

FAQ
Which casino games have the best odds?
Table games played well. Blackjack with basic strategy runs a house edge of about 0.4% to 0.6%, the banker bet in baccarat 1.06%, and European roulette 2.70%. Most slots return around 96% at their top setting, an edge of about 4%.
Which games are best for clearing a bonus?
Slots, because they usually count 100% toward wagering. Table games often count 8% or less, and some casinos exclude them or live casino entirely, so clearing on blackjack can take more than ten times the bets.
Why does the same slot have different RTPs?
Studios ship many slots in several RTP settings and the casino picks one. Book of Dead, for example, runs from 96.21% down to 84.18%. Check the info screen inside the game to see the setting you're playing.
Are live dealer games available in Canada?
Yes, at most casinos on our list, for players outside Ontario and Alberta. Live tables are streamed from studios with real dealers. Check each casino's bonus terms - live games often count little or nothing toward wagering.
Is there a way to beat casino games?
No. Every casino game has a built-in house edge. Strategy can reduce it on games like blackjack, but not remove it. Play for entertainment with a budget you're comfortable losing.
