Mobile Casinos in Canada: Apps vs Browser

✓ Updated

Most people in Canada who play at an online casino do it on a phone. So the obvious question is where the app is. For players outside Ontario and Alberta, the honest answer is that most casinos don’t have one in the app stores, and the reason isn’t technology. It’s the app stores’ own rules. The good news: a modern casino site in your phone’s browser runs the same games, cashier and bonuses as any app. Here’s what Apple and Google allow, which casinos on our list do list an app, and how to deposit and play safely on mobile.

⚡ The quick take
  • Store rules decide: Apple and Google require a licence where the app is used; Google limits casino apps outside Ontario and Alberta to governmental operators.
  • Browser is the norm: 11 of the 19 casinos on our list are recorded as browser play only.
  • Seven list an app: 20Bet, BitGuruz, Jackpot City, LeoVegas, Lucky Days, Stake and V.Vegas, per our research.
  • Mobile wallets: Apple Pay can deposit and sometimes withdraw; Google Pay is deposit-only.

What Apple and Google allow

Both app stores treat real-money gambling as one of their most regulated categories, and both write it into their developer rules.

Apple. The App Store Review Guidelines, last updated October 16, 2026, cover gambling in section 5.3. Guideline 5.3.4 says apps offering real-money gaming “must have necessary licensing and permissions in the locations where the app is used, must be geo-restricted to those locations, and must be free on the App Store.” Guideline 5.3.3 adds that apps can’t use Apple’s in-app purchase to buy credit for real-money gaming, which is why deposits in casino apps go through the casino’s own cashier.

Google. Google Play’s gambling policy requires a valid gambling licence for each country or state/territory where the app is distributed, an Adult Only rating, blocking of under-age users, geo-blocking outside the licensed area, free installation and no Google Play billing. Its Canada rules are the decisive part: in every province except Ontario and Alberta, real-money casino games, sports betting and lotteries are limited to governmental operators. Ontario and Alberta, with their regulated markets, allow private operators.

Put those together and the picture is clear. Outside the two regulated provinces, the provincial lottery corporations are the operators the stores’ rules are built around. Casinos licensed outside Canada, like every casino on our list, don’t hold a provincial licence, which our casino licences guide explains in detail. So the browser is how most of them reach phones. Alberta’s regulators have also said they may ask Apple and Google to remove unregulated apps in the province since its market opened.

Which casinos on our list list an app

We record a mobile app field for every casino we research, from the operator’s pages where we could read them and from Canadian review sources otherwise. Here’s what it shows:

Casino App recorded What sources say
Jackpot City Yes Native iOS and Android apps
LeoVegas Yes Apps on the App Store and Google Play
Lucky Days Yes Operator’s Canada page: iPhone and Android apps from the official stores
V.Vegas Yes Native iOS and Android apps; some promotions only in the app
Stake Yes iOS app agreed by all sources; Android disputed
20Bet Yes App downloadable from the casino’s own site
BitGuruz Yes App listed by a review source
Casino Classic Unresolved Sources disagree: an Android app vs no app
All other casinos on our list No Browser play

Source: BonusMadness casino research records, October 2026. App claims come mostly from review sites rather than operator pages.

One honest caveat. An app being listed by a source doesn’t tell you it’s downloadable from the Canadian store where you live; given the store rules above, many aren’t. If you can’t find a casino’s app, the browser version is the same casino, same account and same balance.

Browser play and home-screen shortcuts

Nearly every casino on our list is built for mobile browsers first. You log in at the casino’s own address, and the lobby, cashier, live chat and account tools all work on a phone screen. Most mobile browsers also let you add a site to your home screen, which gives you a one-tap icon without installing anything from a store.

Browser play has real advantages:

  • Nothing to install, so no storage used and no update to wait for.
  • Same account everywhere: start on your phone, finish on a laptop.
  • No sideloading. An app file downloaded from a website rather than an official store skips the store’s review. If you’re unsure about an app file, use the browser instead.

What you might give up: app-only promotions (V.Vegas is recorded with some), and push notifications. Many players see the second one as a plus.

💳 Paying on mobile

Mobile wallets are the most phone-native way to deposit, and they keep your card number away from the casino.

Apple Pay is listed by 8 of the 24 casinos in our payments research. Deposits are typically from C$10, there’s no Apple Pay fee, and payments are confirmed with Face ID, Touch ID or your passcode. Withdrawals back to Apple Pay are possible only at some casinos. Our Apple Pay casinos page lists them.

Google Pay is listed by 5 casinos in the same research, and it is deposit-only: you can’t withdraw to it. The Google Pay casinos page shows where it works.

Because Google Pay can’t receive money and Apple Pay often can’t, plan your cash-out route before you deposit. For most players in Canada that’s Interac e-Transfer, which every casino on our list accepts and which typically pays out both ways. Our guide to casino withdrawals in Canada covers the timings and ID checks.

Casino-published fastest times, cross-checked against independent review sites. First withdrawals take longer while ID checks run.

These are the fastest published withdrawal times for the seven casinos that list an app, for a verified account. An app doesn’t make a withdrawal faster; the casino’s pending period, your ID check and the payment method decide that. For the quickest payers overall, see our fast payout casinos.

Crypto from a phone wallet is the other mobile-friendly route at the casinos that take it. Once a casino releases a withdrawal, coins typically arrive in minutes, but two checks matter more on a small screen: copy the deposit address exactly, and pick the same network on both ends, because a coin sent on the wrong network can be lost. USDC is the stablecoin Canadians can buy on Canadian-registered platforms; USDT has been delisted there. Our crypto casino guide covers the networks and the price risk.

🔒 Playing safely on a phone

A phone carries your banking apps, your email and your casino account in one pocket. A few habits protect all three:

  • Skip public Wi-Fi for money. The Government of Canada’s Get Cyber Safe guidance is to never use public Wi-Fi to access sensitive information like a bank account or to make a purchase, and to watch for fake “evil twin” hotspots. A casino login or deposit counts. Use mobile data or your home network.
  • Check the address. Type the casino’s address yourself or use a saved bookmark, and look for the padlock (HTTPS) before you log in. Links in messages and ads can lead to copies of real sites.
  • Lock the device. Face ID, a fingerprint or a strong passcode protects every open session, including a casino tab you forgot to close.
  • Keep the phone updated. Updates close security holes, a point Get Cyber Safe makes too.
  • Verify early. Upload your ID documents before your first withdrawal; a phone camera makes it quick.

Phones also make it easy to play in short bursts all day. Set deposit and time limits in your casino account before you start; our responsible gambling page lists every provincial helpline.

Bonuses on mobile

Mobile players get the same welcome offers as desktop players at the casinos we list, with one exception noted above: V.Vegas is recorded with some promotions only inside its app. The terms don’t change with the screen size, so the max bet, wagering and expiry still apply. Small screens make it easier to miss a term, so read it once on a bigger screen if you can. Our wagering calculator shows how much betting an offer needs, and the low deposit casinos page suits small mobile deposits.

🍁 For players in Canada

The casinos on our list serve players aged 19 or over outside Ontario and Alberta, and are licensed outside Canada, so provincial consumer protections don’t apply to them. If you want a store app, look to your provincial lottery: Google Play lists provincial apps such as BCLC’s PlayNow Slots, which fit the store rules described above. If you play offshore on your phone, the browser is the normal route, and the checks in our guide to spotting a safe online casino apply on any screen.

FAQ

Are there real-money casino apps on Google Play in Canada?

Yes, but under strict rules. Google Play's country rules say that in every province except Ontario and Alberta, real-money casino, betting and lottery apps are limited to governmental operators, meaning the provincial lottery corporations. Ontario and Alberta allow regulated private operators. Offshore casinos don't fit those rules outside the two regulated provinces.

What does Apple require from real-money casino apps?

Apple's App Store Review Guideline 5.3.4 says real-money gaming apps must hold the necessary licensing in the locations where the app is used, be geo-restricted to those locations and be free to download. Guideline 5.3.3 bars using in-app purchase to buy credit for real-money gaming.

Which casinos on BonusMadness have a mobile app?

Our research records list an app for 20Bet, BitGuruz, Jackpot City, LeoVegas, Lucky Days, Stake and V.Vegas, though sources differ on platforms for some. Every other casino on our list is recorded as browser play. Whether a store app downloads where you live depends on the store's rules, so check before you count on it.

Can I deposit at a mobile casino with Apple Pay or Google Pay?

At some casinos, yes. Apple Pay is listed by 8 of the 24 casinos in our payments research, with deposits usually from C$10 and withdrawals only at some sites. Google Pay is listed by 5 and is deposit-only, so you'll need Interac e-Transfer, an e-wallet or crypto to cash out.

Is it safe to play casino games on public Wi-Fi?

The Government of Canada's Get Cyber Safe advice is to never use public Wi-Fi to access sensitive information such as a bank account or to make a purchase. A casino deposit or login is exactly that kind of activity, so use your mobile data or a trusted home network instead.
